Reform the benefits system - "A fair days work for a fair days wages"
People in receipt of benefits who are physically able to work should be required to do so.
There are thousands of public works jobs available that councils can't afford to run (street sweeping, cleaning of public toilets, support workers at state run care facilities, community support police officers, maintaining public spaces such as parks etc) which people could be required to do in order to be eligible to receive benefits.
Put simply "No work = no benefits."
This would not only improve public services but at no extra cost helping to beat the recession.
