Wildlife preservation and public green spaces
We the undersigned wish to petition the Minister to encourage and support Local Authorities in adopting a policy in public green spaces of creating wild flower borders which would significantly promote a healthy wildlife and pollinator population.
Such a policy would achieve the following outcomes:
beneficial wildlife environments would be more readily available to halt the decline in wildlife with benefits to the economy, horticulture and agriculture sectors.
when established, local schools would be encouraged to make use of such facilities in support of classroom lessons, resulting in a better understanding of the value of public spaces and wildlife by future generations
open spaces would become more attractive environments generally and would be an effective demonstration of support for Councils' following the various Green Spaces Consultation exercises.
the cost of ground maintenance would be reduced over time and contribute to local authority budget management
