Change the oath or affirmation of allegiance to require a legally binding bond between the elected MP's and their constituents.
The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards publishes an MP’s Code of Conduct but in the light of recent events - for instance our Prime Minister’s support for action against Syria without public or parliamentary support, Mr Clegg's promise to end top up fees, and Mr Gove's aggressive refusal to see a constituent, this voluntary code isn't strong enough.
In order to prevent deception, false promises or simply refusing to represent ALL constituents, we propose that the MP’s oath or affirmation of allegiance be altered & become legally binding, as follows:
“and to serve without favour, to the best of my ability & with regard to the reasonable expectations of all my constituents.”
Such as oath or affirmation should be enforced on each MP personally not collectively by law.
