Petition Action

Companies must let customers cancel subscriptions online

Petition Details

There are an increasing number of services that can be either joined or upgraded online, but cannot be canceled online. Sometimes they do offer a phone option, but that is not the same.
I think that if you can subscribe to something online you should be able to unsubscribe online

Additional Information

This is clearly a marketing strategy as it makes it very easy to subscribe and harder to unsubscribe. Companies that I know that do this: The Guardian, Virgin Media.
Other countries have already solved this (e.g. California: https://www.cnet.com/news/companies-must-let-customers-cancel-subscriptions-online-california-law-says/)

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. This is a matter for individual companies.
