Petition Action

Stop the word nigger in the British music industry. Its a double standard.

Petition Details

In light of the recent events and BLM. We feel now is a good time for the goverment to look into this.
Why should law abiding citizens not use this word, yet music can get away with it.
Ban double standers.

Additional Information

The goverment have the power to bring this into force. At the same time, individual Music/Records seem not to want to.
They have banned the word urban, but not nigger in music,
Especially Rap and Grime.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise.

The UK Government is not responsible for the words which people use, or for censorship of music.

The Office of Communications (Ofcom) is responsible for regulating the broadcast, telecommunications, and postal service industries in the UK. If you wish to raise a complaint about the use of certain language on TV or in other media, you can find out how to do so here: www.ofcom.org.uk/complaints.

Anyone using language with the purpose or effect of discriminating against someone on the basis of their race could be breaking the law under the Equality Act 2010.

The case of no longer using the word 'urban' was a decision by a record company in the United States and not an action by either Government. You can read more here:
