Petition Action

Government to allow the assessment of asylum seekers at the border in Calais.

Petition Details

The desperate plight of asylum seekers attempting to cross the channel on unsafe boats or by dealing with people smugglers places them in a dangerous position and has led to deaths by drowning and asphyxiation.

Additional Information

The government should allow the assessment of asylum seekers at the Calais border and provide safe passage to the UK while their claim is being processed in exactly the same way in which asylum seekers arriving at an airport are. This measure would afford the same security to asylum seekers attempting to reach the UK by boat or lorry as those who arrive by air.
