Petition Action

Incitement to Disability Hatred should be made a criminal act.

Additional Information

We, the undersigned, strongly believe that any speech, act, or publication which portrays disabled people as a burden, nuisance, or waste of resources, should be a criminal act and that the promotion and dissemination of such should constitute an offence of “INCITEMENT TO DISABILITY HATRED”, an offence which, surprisingly in a civilised modern democratic society, does not as yet exist.

An exactly similar offence exists in cases concerning Race, Religion and Sexual Orientation, but as usual the disabled have not been afforded the same protection under law.

We call upon the government to cease stigmatising disabled people as benefit scroungers, actively discourage the Media from doing so, and enact legislation to deal with this as a matter of urgency.
