Investigate if public bodies encourage lies at inquests and coroners ignore lies

Petition Details

Are some public bodies encouraging their staff to lie at inquests and protecting them afterwards? Investigate whether some Coroners turn a blind eye to dishonesty. This encourages bad practices and undermines the organisations. The police seem unable to act, even when they find there was dishonesty

Additional Information

For example if a Coroner encounters conflict and accusations of dishonesty and says he is not concerned because "it assists me not in determining the answer to the question how.” is he fulfilling his duties? ...when there could have been inhuman treatment of the deceased?
If a family advise the Coroner that a witness has lied and the Coroner responds saying β€œ I regard those remarks as wholly inappropriate in this Court and I will not accept it” Should he ask what lies and what evidence exists?

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

It is already possible to challenge coroner's decisions or the verdict of an inquest, so it's not clear what it is you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

You could start a petition calling for the Government to introduce a formal, simplified process for challenging or appealing the findings of an inquest (for instance if a family member felt the Coroner had been misled), if that is something you'd like to happen.
