End the mandatory wearing of face masks in schools
To ensure that children and teachers can thrive in the school environment, we ask the government to remove the need for pupils and staff to have to wear a face mask when on school campus. Pupils and staff should be given the right to chose for themselves whether wearing a face mask is necessary.
By imposing the wearing of masks, amongst other authoritarian COVID measures, we are in danger of psychologically damaging the current generation of children in schools. We have already seen children returning home in distress as a result of the COVID measures that schools have been forced to implement. 2020 has been traumatic enough for children, and given the extremely low health risk posed by the school environment, we feel it is only right that the wearing of masks should be a personal choice.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The Government has not made the wearing of face coverings mandatory in schools in England.
On 25 August the Government updated its advice on face coverings in school, stating that while the government is not recommending face coverings are necessary, schools will have the discretion to require face coverings in communal areas if they believe that is right in their particular circumstances: www.gov.uk/government/news/update-on-face-coverings-in-schools
The Government also said it would advise additional measures are taken in areas where the transmission of the virus is high, which will include stating that face coverings should be worn by adults and pupils in secondary schools when moving around the school, such as in corridors and communal areas where social distancing is difficult to maintain.
