Increase funding to make Covid-19 vaccines available to developing countries
The poor are more likely to die of disease than the wealthy who have better access to health care. Pope Francis notes that the pandemic highlights such inequalities. We urge the UK Government to adopt policies so that a Covid19 vaccine is made available to those with the greatest need worldwide.
Pope Francis states our responsibility to care for the ‘poor, the least, the sick, the excluded and the forgotten’. We have reached a critical point in our history. The climate crisis and the pandemic remind us that there are far more things that unite us than divide us as a human race. We have a clear moral obligation to provide support to those who are marginalised.
In the current context, the Government should increase the funding to ensure that when a vaccine is developed it is available for all: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-leads-way-as-nations-endorse-landmark-pledge-to-make-coronavirus-vaccines-and-treatments-available-to-all.
