Petition Action

Make poetry optional on AQA GCSE English Literature exam 2021

Petition Details

Ofqual should force exam boards to make poetry optional for the 2021 GCSE exams in English Literature.

Additional Information

there are 15 poems in the Literature exam and its too much material to cover throughout the short period of time we have left for our exams.
poetry does not provide us with and deep meaningful messages unlike the novels and texts we have do do such as Shakespeare and other well known authors.
poetry does not resonate with our generation and we take no deep meaning from it.
this change is also only for one year and not the "dangerous step" Simon Armitage believes it to be.
