Petition Action

Create environmental laws for UK supermarkets

Petition Details

We need supermarkets to act faster on sustainability. Supermarkets need to stop importing goods from countries that are participating in mass destruction of biodiversity and only stock sustainable produce.

Additional Information

Supermarkets have the power to change consumers’ habits and stop offering us produce that are destroying nature. We need to consume less but we need supermarkets to help drive that change and not offer us produce out of season from half way round the world. We also need to reduce waste and start conserving our planet’s resources. But we need to do it now.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

You want supermarkets to "stop importing goods from countries that are participating in mass destruction of biodiversity and only stock sustainable produce" but it is not clear how this would be assessed, or what would be classed as 'sustainable produce'.
