Prevent religion being used as an excuse to build on protected green belts
After hearing about "The Eternal Wall of Prayer" project being built in a protected green belt, I think religious belief should not be a valid excuse in a secular country to build on an otherwise restricted area
Green belts exist to preserve areas and prevent urban sprawl. Building this blatant tourist attraction is bound to create exactly a sprawl, as people move to provide facilities to visitors of the Wall. Religious belief and the wall being "A vision from God" should not be accepted as a valid reason to build on protected land, especially when other more useful buildings could be provided instead, and when not even locals are allowed to build.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
It is possible to get planning permission for building on Green Belt land, and this is the case whether a project is religious in nature or not.
You can find out more about the role of the Green Belt in the planning system here: www.gov.uk/guidance/green-belt
We could accept a petition calling on the Government to ban any new development on the Green Belt, if that is what you want to happen.
