Petition Action

Stop the reporting of ‘coronavirus cases’ and use only ‘COVID 19 or SARS Cov 2’

Petition Details

The government and media are using the blanket term Coronavirus in their headlines and policy as justification for informing them however Coronavirus is a broad term for a multitude of viruses such as the common cold. It’s a misleading medical term and irrelevant information to the pandemic.

Additional Information

I would love this to stop as it’s confusing for everyone and it’s also misleading people. People should be given information only on SARS Cov 2 or COVID 19. Why do they need daily updates on colds and flus?

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. The Government's report of cases is for Covid-19 coronavirus cases, as described on their figures here:

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/?_ga=2.198074543.1420835252.1601285870-1479854376.1579706268

The UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for regulating the words used by the media.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
