Petition Action

Partners allowed for entirety of labour/birth in all hospitals.

Petition Details

Maternity wards and hospitals, to allow your chosen birth partner to remain with you, for the entirety of labour and delivery to when you leave the hosptial. And for scans and appointments.

Additional Information

Not allowing partners into the ward from the beginning of labour, and during tests and scans will be damaging emotionally, mentally and physically for both the mother and father to be. And could cause the father to be to miss the birth entirely.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about visitors are a matter for the NHS, not the Government or House of Commons.

With regard to antenatal appointments, scans, and the birth itself, on 5 June, the NHS’s suspension of hospital visiting was lifted. This means that visiting is now subject to local discretion by trusts and other NHS bodies. You should check with your maternity team and sonography unit for their policy on visitors attending antenatal appointments, including scans.
