The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Since 2018 the BBC has been responsible for any costs associated with providing free TV licences, so deciding to grant free TV licences to people over a certain age would be a matter for the BBC, not the Government or House of Commons.

However, we have published the following petition, which you might like to sign:
