Keep British Summer Time and do not turn the clocks back to Greenwich mean time.
Keep the time set at British Summer Time (GMT +1) always. No longer turn the clocks back to Greenwich mean time. Perhaps re-name this time zone the British Standard Time.
The cold winter time would be less miserable and of a shorter duration. This will mean the earliest darkness would be 5.00pm and not 4.00pm.
