Petition Action

UK to sign Council of Europe Convention, Offences to Cultural Property: 221

Petition Details

We at SaveOurStatues are petitioning for the United Kingdom to become a Party to the Council of Europe Convention of Offences Relating to Cultural Property, Treaty No. 221.

Additional Information

Our goal at SaveOurStatues is for the UK Government to accede to, and ratify, this Treaty. Such a move will, we believe, enable a much stronger legal and moral force to bear against local authorities and other bodies who are politicizing, rewriting or deleting our prized national heritage.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. The Convention on Offences relating to Cultural Property aims to prevent and combat the illicit trafficking and destruction of cultural property, in the framework of the Organisation’s action to fight terrorism and organised crime.
