Stop proposed MP pay increase, when people of the UK are being made redundant

Petition Details

Stop the proposed pay increase for MP's. People are losing there jobs due to covid, front line emergency services that are fighting covid and dealing with the fall out of government legistlation have not had the pay increase to the level proposed for MP's

Additional Information

Government need to stop the increase as they need to understand the resentment that would be felt by members of the public who are struggling due to redundancy and hardship felt by so many due to covid 19. It is stated that it is in line with current public sector pay increase however some emergency services and front line public sector workers at the heart of dealing with covid have not had this increase.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for setting MPs' pay. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' expenses and pay. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.
