Petition Action

Have a referendum to propose a new electoral system based on proportionality.

Petition Details

The Parliament should allow a referendum that proposes a new electoral system based on representative proportionality, eliminating the FPTP.

If the outcome is in favour, an independent commission selects a proportional representative system based on existing models in other countries.

Additional Information

The current FPTP system does not provide appropriate representation at Parliament of the people of the UK.

It creates a very strong party politics system of which the opposition cannot properly question or propose changes that are apt for a democratic and representative country.

As an example, the current Parliament has the Conservatives in majority of 80 against the opposition, while the last general election show that this was backed by 43% of the people, this not representative.
