ISP speed reductions (Traffic management)
ISP's such as Virgin are using policies such as Traffic Management to restrict/reduce the use of their network at peak times claiming it affects a small minority.
This is not true, as a modern user, I use iplayer, which most consider in 2013 Britain to be a common use of the internet.
With Virgin Traffic Management if I try this during peak hours then I find my 60mb connection reduced to mere 2mb.
BT/Sky offer similar speeds in the areas now with fibre cable without Traffic Management.
This hidden clause is exploited to make customers sign up to a contract believing they will have a very fast connection most of the time, when actually unless you use it late at night the reality is very slow speeds.
Government should act to ban Traffic Management or pass legislation making it unacceptable to data manage a connection by more than 25% of its advertised speed.
This ensures companies like Virgin invest in their infrastructure to ensure customers receive the best possible speeds
