Petition Action

Enact a Criminal Code statute for England and Wales

Petition Details

The Government should work with the Law Commission to continue previous projects in order to enact a Criminal Code statue for England and Wales that would clearly set out what actions are deemed criminal.

Additional Information

Per Sir John Holker: "Surely, it is a desirable thing that anybody who may want to know the law on a particular subject should be able to turn to a chapter of the Code"

The Criminal Law should be clear and accessible to any citizen of England and Wales, many of whom will not possess the tools required to read cases and determine what the law is. If one wants to know what is not permissible under the criminal law, it should be easy to do so.
