SEND training should be compulsory in teaching degrees to learn about ASD/ADHD
Currently in a teacher degree to learn about SEND is optional. We want government to make this an integral part of the degree and compulsory.
in the UK one in 100 people are autistic, and 5% are ADHD. It is likely that a teacher will have one in their classroom. However it is compulsory to learn about this in teaching and a classroom can end up being a hostile environment. Children with these conditions who fail in school end up costing the state in terms of social care and a higher increase in criminality etc. Also If teachers were trained then they could identify the conditions earlier allowing for earlier support and success

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The Government is not responsible for the content of teacher training degrees, this is a matter for individual providers of teacher training.
We could accept a petition calling on the Government to require mandatory training on ASD/ADHD for teachers, if that is something you would like to happen.
