Provide funds for food banks in the UK during the coronavirus pandemic

Petition Details

Due to the current pandemic more people have had to take up the tough choice of going to a food bank as a last resort. 10 years ago there were only 41,000 food parcels donated, but in 2018 this went up to 1.6 million food parcels. Due to the pandemic, there has been and will be a further increase.

Additional Information

We believe that programs such as health start vouchers and free school meals must be extended and safeguarded to reach all those that are eligible. We also believe that local government must adopt policies that ensure work is a pathway out of poverty and helps increase access to healthy, affordable food through local enterprise. The government needs to do more to find long-term solutions to food poverty so that families in need have a reliable income so that they can afford healthy food.
