Stop the postcode lottery in council areas when it comes to burying a baby
We want the government to either completely scrap fees for grave ownership deeds for any burial of a baby or child from early gestational loss to 18 years old; or have one set price for owning a grave deed all over the U.K. with the ability to have a payment plan
Depending on where you are in the country will impact the cost incurred for grave deeds. For example you automatically get grave deed ownership for a baby’s burial at no cost in Liverpool but in Dorset you have to pay £600 to own the grave before you can add a headstone, this is unfair and adds to the distress adding unnecessary financial stress as parents want the opportunity to be able to do something for their baby in their memory
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The fees charged by public burial and cremation authorities are a matter for individual local authorities, not the Government or House of Commons.
The Children’s Funeral Fund for England can help to pay for some of the costs of a funeral, including burial fees, for a child under 18 or a baby stillborn after the 24th week of pregnancy: www.gov.uk/child-funeral-costs
We could accept a petition calling on the Government to extend the Children’s Funeral Fund to pay for any costs that are currently covered by this scheme.
