Give the terminally ill the choice to seek assistance in the Active Dying Phase.
I am petitioning for a change in the law regarding the Active Dying Phase for terminally ill patients.
After a patient receives a terminal diagnosis, allow them the choice that as they approach the Active Dying Phase, they can have assistance from medical staff to pass peacefully.
Once a person approaches this stage, there is no turning back; death is inevitable. Patients should have the choice not to suffer and be able to pass peacefully. For many cancer patients in particular, the Active Dying Phase can be extremely traumatic and often inhumane. It is also incredibly distressing for family members to witness and can have a lasting affect on those left behind.
We all deserve the right to have that personal choice.
