Nationally require 10% of new build homes to be accessible to disabled people
Enact legislation to require all local authorities to make at least 10% of new build homes for sale accessible or adaptable for disabled people, matching the standard set by London.
Disabled people should not have to pay from their own pocket to makes adaptations to a home to make it liveable, or to pay more in rent for an accessible home. The Equalities and Human Rights Commission describes the UK's lack of accessible housing as a "hidden crisis", with 93% of rental properties being inaccessible and only 5% of local authorities requiring developers to construct wheelchair-suitable housing.
