Stop using student finance as income when calculating universal credit.
Student finance is being used as an income when calculating Universal credit entitlement. Student finance is a loan which has to be repaid not an income. It is like any other loan. It is not a wage. Many students are having to leave their course which could mean relying on FULL benefits anyway.
Going into university, will help individuals get jobs and not be reliant on the benefit system. The DWP however are taking this loan as an income/wage when working out benefit awards, and reducing entitlement. Students have to one day pay this back like any other loan. This is not a grant. It is also used for books and study materials. However, your also expected to pay rent, bills, food and for your children with it too. Many students have to drop out because they can’t afford to learn.
