Petition Action

Ban gambling sponsors from football tops.

Petition Details

Ban adverts that are related to gambling from the front of football tops where it is easily visible to a younger or more vulnerable audience.

Additional Information

Problem gambling is a topic which has very limited support and the gambling industry is massive, the advertising is everywhere, particularly in football. There is a lot of young children who attend football matches or watch their heroes on tv who are parading around with all different sorts of gambling industries written on their top. This is opening up their eyes to the industry at a very young age and could lead to real gambling troubles as they grow up.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. It would be a decision for the Football Association and individual teams whether to allow gambling sponsorship on football shirts.

You could start a petition calling for the Government to introduce a ban on gambling advertising and sponsorship in sport in general, if that's something you'd like to see happen.
