Petition Action

Allow parents to donate their children's free school meals to those in need.

Petition Details

Create a system which allows parents of children receiving universal infant free school meals (which are offered regardless of income) to opt out and for this money to be reallocated to support families with children who need meals during the school holidays.

Additional Information

Children are going hungry during the school holidays, and the government won't commit funds to extend free school meals during holidays. ALL children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free school meals each school day, whether or not they need them.

If parents could opt out of their children receiving these meals, the money allocated for those meals could be transferred to families with children who need meals during the holidays – effectively donating their free school meals.
