Petition Action

Give special protection to our civil liberties & freedoms at a time of crisis

Petition Details

We want a law that will list & protect our civil liberties & freedoms. Preventing government from infringing on them unless there are extraordinary circumstances and only as a last resort with sunset clauses requiring extension by parliament and continued extension by referendum.

Additional Information

We believe that such a law will…

Protect our civil liberties and Freedoms as the ‘default position’ unless there is a democratic consensus to temporarily infringe on them.

And…

Encourage governments to influence our behaviours and activities through request, negotiation, reasoning, persuasion, sound argument, reward or encouragement before considering enforced laws.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to not be changed, and in what circumstances this might be overridden.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
