Force local councils to be guarantors for those who want to rent privately.
Local councils should be mandated to act as guarantors to new renters in their areas who have no guarantors for whatever reason. This will help people who can afford to rent privately but cannot get a guarantor to get a home so that they do not become homeless.
At this time of the coronavirus an increasing number of people are being rejected as tenants because they lack a suitable guarantor for the rent despite having the financial means to pay the rent. This adds to the homelessness crisis, particularly among young people.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Local authorities are not responsible for acting as guarantors for private tenants.
We could accept a petition calling on the Government to establish a guarantor scheme for people seeking to secure private tenancies, if that's what you want to happen.
