Give every child the opportunity to access technology and educational resources
I am a teacher. Some of my students and their families, as well as those across the country find themselves in Digital Poverty. COVID meant that many lessons went online, highlighting the dire need for technology for those on the poverty line. Let’s safeguard their future and delete digital poverty.
"In our schools, 60% to 70% of children wouldn't have laptops," says Wayne Norrie, head of an academy trust with schools in disadvantaged areas. With schools closed and pupils studying online at home it is important to recognise the social gap in access to technology. "Coronavirus has revealed the scale of the digital divide," he says. The Department for Education in England has promised laptops will be lent to some poorer teenagers." Many students are still missing out and it is unacceptable.
