Petition Action

Increase pay for NHS Mental Health Workers

Petition Details

The Government should provide additional funding to the NHS to allow them to pay Healthcare staff an allowance for working unsocial hours, and for working in dangerous conditions/with challenging behaviour.

Additional Information

Mental Health Support Workers and Nurses are required to work unsocial hours, and face dangerous situations head on. There is a real risk of seeing serious self-harm; being assaulted; verbal aggression; witnessing suicide attempts. Whilst earning a low hourly rate, often around £8-9 per hour, there is no requirement for employers to pay enhancements for working unsocial hours or in dangerous situations. Mental health workers should be paid a 17% allowance which is equivalent to HMPPS.
