Treat bookshops as essential services during the new lockdown.
Please keep our bookshops open during lockdown. We must ensure that social isolation does not cause widespread intellectual famine. Books, which keep us connected, composed and understood, provide a much-needed figurative escape when a literal escape is impossible.
In the searing words of Fahrenheit 451: “There must be something in books, things we can’t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don’t stay for nothing.”
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
Since you started your petition, the national lockdown has ended. Essential and non-essential retailers can remain open under the new local tiered restrictions implemented from 2 December, but you could start a new petition calling for changes to the current tiered restrictions, if that's what you'd like to see happen.
