Politics an option at GCSE
Although the children's parents may not take much interest in politics, having the option at secondary school will influence them into thinking politically making it more likely for them to take an active part in voting as they come of age.
It will start to change the stereotypical view that politics is for older members of the public and encourage other to become more aware and take more of an interest.
The politics of this country effect everyone: rich, poor, ill, old, young. So why not teach students a subject which is current and relevant to their lives no matter what career path they choose.
