Allow gyms and other sport facilities to stay open during the national lockdown
For many people’s mental and physical health, gyms and sports facilites were the only lifeline in this sad and uncertain world that COVID-19 has forced us to live in.
Protecting the nation´s health and the NHS should of course come first, but we should not omit the undeniably positive effect that sport has on people’s minds and bodies.
Sport facilities and their members have shown a remarkable compliance in respecting distancing guidelines, and if schools are still allowed to remain open so should gyms.
Allowing people at least one safe form of leisure and social interaction might even dissuade the public from breaking other restrictions.
