Petition Action

Allow parents in the hospitality industry to take their children out of school for up to 5 days per academic year

Additional Information

Help parents who work in the hospitality industry to holiday with their families for up to 5 days per academic year during term time. This would exclude parents from taking their children out of school during year 6 sats or gcse exams. The new fine system penalises those who have to work during every school term break, half terms, Christmas, Easter and summer holidays. This petition is aimed at allowing parents to spend time with their children without being fined.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The government has not changed the law so that it can fine parents who go on term time holiday. The law has changed governing term time leave to make it clear that schools should grant leave of absence only in exceptional circumstances. Whether a school or local authority issues a fine for unauthorised family holiday is down to a local decision.
