Give carers allowance to people with an overlapping benefit during COVID-19
People caring for disabled or vulnerable relatives full time due to COVID-19 are not entitled to carers allowance if they have an overlapping benefit (such as a state pension).
Make it so that they are throughout a period with any restrictions in place and get back pay too.
Those who are looking after vulnerable people at home full time due to government restrictions should be entitled to extra assistance during this time period.
This can be a 24/7 job, and it is wrong and de-humanising to not offer a package to these people. The vulnerable people they are looking after were often typically in day programmes or residential care facilities prior to COVID-19. They now can be in a situation where relatives are looking after them with no extra support.
