Councils, refuse collectors must scan & identify any recovered deceased dogs.
All public authorities, including councils, railway workers and waste collectors, should be required to scan all recovered deceased dogs for a microchip and seek to reunite them with their owners.
All recovered deceased dogs found on roads, highways, pathways and train lines must be scanned for a microchip & any registered keeper contacted the same day.
Photos should be taken of the deceased animal and any identification must be kept together with the photo and logged in a recovery book along with a description of the animal. This information should be accessible within 2 hours of the animal’s recovery.
The deceased animal must be kept for at least 7 days before disposal.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
