Petition Action

Stop chaperones being challenged when arriving with vulnerable adults. Covid-19

Petition Details

Initiate a Symbol of recognition to be displayed within the NHS framework and on the first page of medical files. The symbol should create a movement of acknowledgement supporting the rights of the individual to have ONE person of their choice accompany them to face to face NHS appointments.

Additional Information

suchlike El, vulnerable adults are expected to attend NHS appointments alone because of the rules of lockdown. Having to explain upon arrival for appointments that El has ASD and GAD is demoralising and discriminating, especially since 'not all disabilities are visible'. We should not be challenged. A symbol located at the top of the first page of medical files will alleviate, embarrassment, discrimination and tremendous anxiety for the individual and their chaperone.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about chaperones for medical appointments is a matter for NHS providers and clinicians, not the UK Government or Parliament.

You could start a new petition calling for the Government to fund an awareness campaign for healthcare professionals on chaperones, if that's something that you'd like to happen.
