Petition Action

Make it compulsory for fixed term airline staff to receive ongoing furlough

Petition Details

Make it compulsory for airlines to have to provide airline staff that have been on a fixed term contract when another lockdown was announced with furlough.

Additional Information

As a fixed term cabin crew member I am coming to the end of my contract on 8/11/20. However another lockdown has been introduced and furlough extended. However I, along with many colleagues, am not entitled to this according to the airline I work for. Thousands of staff will be entering a saturated job market making it very hard to get a new role/temporary role which would ordinarily be there. This leads to even more mass unemployment and mental health worry.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about contracts and whether or not to retain staff is one for individual employers, not the UK Government or Parliament. You could start a new petition asking for the UK Government to provide financial support for staff whose temporary contracts have ended, if that's something that you'd like to see.
