Stop local authorities from fining parents where a child is taken on holiday in term time
Parents who have no choice but to take their children on holiday in term time (either because of their own work situation or because of the prohibitive cost of going in the school holidays) are being fined significant amounts of money. This is discriminatory, in that those who for financial reasons are least able to afford to go away in the school holidays are having to pay fines which they also can't afford.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The government has not changed the law so that it can fine parents who go on term time holiday. The law has changed governing term time leave to make it clear that schools should grant leave of absence only in exceptional circumstances. Whether a school or local authority issues a fine for unauthorised family holiday is down to a local decision.
