Additional Information

Although giving every person the right to vote is a nice idea, it is sadly flawed; after a brief look at some of the petitions currently on this website, it is abundantly clear that not everyone possesses the ability to make rational, informed decisions.

Therefore it is proposed that everyone should be required to take a simple test of intelligence and reasoning before being allowed to vote. It is further suggested that this site become part of the testing, so that anyone who signs certain petitions (e.g. those calling for the return of the death penalty, or for immigrants/prisoners to lose their basic human rights) is removed from the electoral roll on the grounds of incompetence. Perhaps the signatories could then be given an experience of life under these conditions, followed by an opportunity to change their views; I'm sure it would be an enlightening experience for everyone.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
