Ban the sale and use of Fipronil and Imidacloprid in flea treatments for pets
The UK Government must prohibit the manufacture, sale and use of flea treatments for domestic pets that contain harmful pesticides, in order to prevent harm to aquatic life and to protect the natural environment.
There are an estimated 10 million dogs and 11 million cats in the UK.
The majority of pets routinely receive flea treatments, many of which contain toxic chemicals that find their way into watercourses, polluting rivers and poisoning aquatic life.
Fipronil and Imidacloprid - two of the chemicals most commonly used - have already been banned in farming.
The continued use of these chemicals to treat domestic pets can harm aquatic life and other organsims and must be stopped immediately.
