Don't cut overseas aid: maintain the aid budget at 0.7% of GDP
In line with the United Nations aid target, to maintain our current commitment to provide 0.7% of UK's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in overseas aid to the developing world
Pressing reasons to maintain the aid budget include the following:
- Developing countries, economically hit hard by covid, need urgent funding to fight the pandemic
- We must show global leadership, prior to our hosting of the UN climate conference, by helping the poorest adapt to climate change
- Aid strengthens democracy around the world and creates the conditions for peace
- Creating a more stable and equitable world, which collectively faces these challenges, is in our own interest.
