Classify Ice Skating as a Recognised Sport & allow Ice Rinks to Re-Open

Petition Details

A 5-year-old little girl had a dream and fell in love with the ice, nearly 20 years later she is still training 5/6 days a week alongside hundreds of other athletes, waking up a 5am, putting their blood, sweat and tears into this sport, week in and week out - They don’t give up.

Additional Information

They do not just train on the ice, they have a whole team behind them; from strength and conditioning to flexibility classes - yet they still can't be classed as a sport!
This is not a leisurely activity, please help them get back on the ice and get the recognition the sport deserves!

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about the impact of Covid-19 on ice skating, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

British Ice Skating is already recognised as the governing body for the sport of ice skating, and leisure and sports facilities may continue to stay open during the current Covid-19 restrictions, although rules on household mixing and group exercise depend on what tier a local area is in. Whether or not a particular ice rink chooses to open during the current restrictions is a matter for the owner, not the Government or House of Commons.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to exempt ice skating, or all sports, on rules from household mixing, if that is what you want to happen.
