Make it compulsory for all pet owners to have pet insurance
Implement a law that states all domestic pet owners must have pet insurance or face fines and prosecution and if prosecuted be banned from having pets in future
Out of 23 million UK households 41% have a pet.
Every year, thousands of pets are being put down because their owners cannot afford the vet bills or ongoing medical costs to look after their animals.
Research from Sainsbury's Finance reveals that 1.6 million people have had to put down at least one pet dog or cat over the past five years because of this.
All pet owners have a legal duty to keeping their animals happy and healthy under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, section 9.
