Reduce internet banking scams
Urge banks, if necessary by legislation, to enable account holders to limit size of payments, to require advance notice and name a second authorising person.
Bank fraud and scams are a growing problem, sometimes involving eye watering sums. Banks have gone as far as they can with warning customers, but the scammers have come up with new ways of tricking or panicking customers to disregard these warnings. Banks have unintentionally contributed to the growth of these scams by allowing very large payments to be made almost instantly. Many customers do not need this facility, and security is more important to them. The customer should be given a choice and sometimes needs to be saved from himself.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The services provided by individual banks are a matter for banks, not the Government or House of Commons. Individual consumers are free to choose a bank that provides the services they want.
