Petition Action

Teach vital aspects of life such as Taxes as compulsory curriculum in UK schools

Petition Details

Despite the fact that schools exist to teach important things about society, many children come out of school not knowing about Taxes, Mortgages, Banks and Insurances. These are vital aspects of our society and we must better equip our children by making this compulsory as part of their curriculum.

Additional Information

The government takes charge of curriculum in schools and as a young adult, kids are ill equipped on aspects of life that involve money. The government should do more to help children better understand society that they will contribute to after coming out of education.

Aspects such as taxes, insurances, banks and mortgages alienate kids and young adults once they leave school or college because they are not taught this in school when this should be made compulsory as part of their curriculum.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The national curriculum already states that secondary school students should be taught about the functions and uses of money, the importance and practice of budgeting, income and expenditure, credit and debt, insurance, savings and pensions, financial products and services, and how public money is raised and spent.

You can read the full national curriculum for key stages 3 and 4 here: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/840002/Secondary_national_curriculum_corrected_PDF.pdf
